Three free public workshops over the coming weeks are aiming to teach area homeowners how they can save water - especially outside. The Inland Empire Resource Conservation District has partnered with the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District to host three separate water conservation presentations this month and in March. A scheduled workshop for Feb. 19 will begin at 4 p.m. at the Felheym Library, 555 West Sixth St., and a scheduled Feb. 24 workshop will begin at 6 p.m. at the Rowe Library, 108 East Marshall Blvd. A final presentation is scheduled for March 24 at 6 p.m. at the Villasenor Branch Library, 525 North Mt. Vernon Ave. California Gov. Jerry Brown announced a drought state of emergency in early 2014 and According to the Environmental Protection Agency, some Southern California homes can use over 60 percent of water consumption for outdoor water use. The upcoming workshops will discuss the current state of the drought in the region as well as water conservation techniques residents can implement inside and outside the home, a release states. The program will also cover available rebate options to homeowners and an emphasis on planting and design basics for drought-tolerant gardens.
