90+ Club Welcomes 21 New Members

The Il Sorrento Mobile Home Care Team honored 21 of its residents who joined an elite group called the 90+ Club on Sunday, Aug. 11. This is the second year Helen Davis, Care Team Coordinator, organized the celebration for the seniors. The celebration started promptly at 3 p.m. and ran until 4:30 p.m. The guests of honor were given gifts to commemorate the day, with an Un-Birthday cake served to all in attendance while they enjoyed musical entertainment. The 90+ Club is so named because the ages of the members are private, shared Davis. “This is our second time doing this. Our first time was in 2011,” stated Davis. “I had become more active in the Care Team and we were trying to expand. At that time we had 11 people who were 90 and older, so we had our first birthday party and thought it was great.” Davis said she would check with management each year to see how many she would add to the list. Since there were so many they decided to host another party. “It’s not the type of party we can do every year because unfortunately [some do pass away] and it can become a sad time,” shared Davis. Since this year the number of residents 90 and older is greater than the 11 back in 2011, the choice to have another party was simple, Davis noted. August was the chosen month because that was when the party was hosted two years ago, and because August is a closed month for the association, added Davis. “It’s good for them to get out and for us to give them recognition. It’s also good for them to see some friends that they haven’t seen in a while,” stated Davis. Il Sorrento resident Peggy Bergland, a recent inductee into the 90+ Club, thought the event was fun and was excited about the distinction. Bergland also read a poem she found on the Internet that seemed fitting for the celebration. Bergland is the resident writer and poet at the mobile home park, according to Davis. “It’s just lovely. Helen did a wonderful job,” said Anne Neudecker, resident and recent 90+ Club member. Other members who joined Bergland and Neudecker in the 90+ Club were: Donna Hughes, Ernest White, Peggy Goatcher, Lucerne Kechter, Willis Burgener, Jana Whittenbaugh, Helen Rubart, Helen Tucker, Bonnie Wilson, Bill Manor, Julian Sandoval, Florence Crandall, Dorothy White, Connie Gee, Allyn Bridge, Eileen Bell, Jean Naylor, Richard Nygren, and Dean Wilson. “Our next one will probably be in two years,” said Davis.
