MORENO VALLEY>> Residents can now dispose of household hazardous waste including antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint six days a week at the landfills in Moreno Valley and Beaumont. The newly expanded household hazardous waste service will be available for free to Riverside County residents from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, except on holidays. The landfills, operated by the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources, previously collected household hazardous waste one day a week. Hazardous waste from businesses, including non-profit organizations, will not be accepted. The Badlands Landfill is located at 31125 Ironwood Avenue in Moreno Valley. The Lamb Canyon Landfill is located at 16411 Lamb Canyon Road in Beaumont. The County's Regional Antifreeze, Battery, Oil and Paint and PaintCare Collection Facilities provide an opportunity for Riverside County residents to keep toxic household waste out of landfills and ensure it is properly managed. Waste accepted at the facilities includes antifreeze, household and automotive batteries, used motor oil and oil filters, paints, cooking oil, aerosols, equipment containing mercury, fluorescent bulbs/tubes, and electronic wastes such as televisions, computers, VCRs and telephones. Contaminated waste - including used motor oil mixed with gasoline and antifreeze mixed with oil - will not be accepted. No more than 15 gallons, or 125 pounds, per vehicle will be accepted. Individual containers should not be larger than five gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds. The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery provided funding through the Used Oil Competitive Grant Program for the purchase of equipment needed to provide these services. The ABOP and PaintCare Facilities are subject to close during inclement weather or for other hazardous conditions as determined by the department. For more information, contact the department at (951)486-3200 or (800)304-2226, or www.rcwaste.org/hhw
