This is the third year that the Moreno Valley Cultural Arts Foundation is holding a Project Rudolph event. The community is invited to come make ornaments and write holiday cards and letters for our troops oversea. Those interested in participating can go to the Vanguard Cultural Arts Museum Gallery this Saturday, Nov. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. The Vanguard is located at the Stoneridge Towne Centre, 27120 Eucalyptus Avenue, Suite A in Moreno Valley. MVCAF works with the Project Rudolph group located in Idaho. The group collects ornaments, cards, letters, and hard candy that they then sort into individual bags. The items are sent to Ramstein Air Base in Germany and then distributed to U.S Military serving in various outposts in areas including Afghanistan, Kuwait and other Middle Eastern countries. In some cases it is the only thing that some military personnel get for Christmas. Richard L. F. Archer, Sr., President of MVCAF, said, “It is particularly fitting with this being the weekend before Veterans Day, that we show our appreciation for our troops service.” The art gallery has a variety of blank ornaments and art materials, along with Christmas cards and stationery for the public to use. Last year, over 400 ornaments, 200 letters and cards, and about 20 pounds of hard candy was created/collected. Community members are welcome to bring in ornaments, cards, and letters that they have already made and drop them off at the gallery this weekend. Hard candy will also be greatly appreciated.
