Approximately 400 high school students from San Bernardino and Riverside Counties attended the 2021 Inland Empire Strong Apprenticeship Expo at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center yesterday. It’s a collaborative event that highlights apprenticeship career pathways and provides network opportunities for students to meet trade representatives.

San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Ted Alejandre spoke to students about their career options and encouraged them to take advantage of the industry partners present at the expo.

“This is the type of opportunity that students need and the kind of event they’ve asked for on student panels to be more prepared for college and career,” said County Superintendent Ted Alejandre. “I was inspired by the discussions I was having with students and with our labor partners. They had the room packed with resources and information about what opportunities are out there for students. It was incredible.”

The expo showcased apprenticeship career pathways in the information technology, cybersecurity, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, automotive and hospitality industries.

“How do you know where the jobs are? Who are the people to speak to? They are here in this room,” said County Superintendent Ted Alejandre to the crowd of students. “We are so fortunate to have them here to talk to you because you can start creating that path right now. I want to thank all our participating industry partners and unions, Riverside County, Moreno Valley College and the City of Moreno Valley for their collaboration in this fantastic event.”

The expo was organized by the U.S. Department of Labor during National Apprenticeship Week. SBCSS, through SBConnect and the Alliance for Education, allowed students in the region to attend the expo virtually.
