At just 17 years old, Isaac Mota is a Senior at John W. North High School who has already built an impressive athletic resume through years of dedication, hard work, and a commitment to becoming the best version of himself. His athletic journey began at the age of six, and while he has competed in multiple sports, football has become his true passion.

Isaac began his athletic career playing baseball, a sport he participated in for approximately six years until 2020. He then transitioned to competitive travel basketball, playing for about three years before discovering his passion for football. His football journey began halfway through his Freshman year at Ramona High School. Although he started later than many of his peers, Isaac quickly developed a love for the game and a determination to take his skills to the next level.

He played football at Ramona High School during his Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years before transferring to John W. North High School for his Senior season. While every sport has helped shape him into the athlete he is today, football is where he has found his greatest passion and the opportunity to showcase his versatility.

On the football field, Isaac plays wide receiver and safety while also contributing as both a kickoff returner and punt returner. His ability to make an impact on offense, defense, and special teams makes him a valuable asset to his team. Whether catching passes, defending against opponents, or returning kicks, Isaac approaches every opportunity with one goal in mind which it is helping his team win.

Isaac also competes in Track and Field, participating in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and long jump. Track has helped him develop his speed, explosiveness, and overall athletic ability, all of which contribute to his performance on the football field.

His accomplishments speak volumes about his dedication to the sport. During his football career, Isaac earned First Team All-League honors each year he played. Last season, he added First Team All-CIF recognition and MaxPreps Offensive Player of the Year to his list of achievements. During his Junior season, he recorded 770 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to make a difference when his team needs him most.

One of the most memorable moments of Isaac’s football career was helping his team reach the CIF Championship game last season. Being a significant contributor to a team that advanced that far was an experience he will always cherish. It reinforced the importance of teamwork, trust, preparation, and a shared commitment to achieving a common goal. Although individual recognition is meaningful, Isaac says contributing to his team’s success is even more rewarding.

He recently gave Husky fans another performance to remember when John W. North faced Paloma Valley High School. Isaac scored two touchdowns, including an electrifying 89 yard kickoff return for a touchdown that showcased his speed, determination, and ability to turn a special teams opportunity into a game changing moment.

Behind those Friday night performances is a commitment to preparation that begins long before kickoff. Isaac spends considerable time watching game film, studying opponents, and understanding his assignments. He also prioritizes taking care of himself physically so he can remain healthy and ready to compete. For Isaac, preparation builds the focus and confidence needed to perform when the pressure is on. He believes the work athletes put in when nobody is watching is what prepares them for the biggest moments under the Friday night lights.

Away from athletics, Isaac enjoys watching anime, working out, and playing video games. He genuinely enjoys training and continually looks for ways to improve himself physically, while also making time to relax and enjoy life outside of sports.

When asked who has had the greatest influence on his life, Isaac immediately recognized his mother and the unwavering support she has given him throughout his journey. “My mom has definitely been the biggest influence in my life. She’s been there for me through everything and has always supported me, encouraged me, and pushed me to be the best version of myself.” Isaac recognizes the sacrifices his mother has made to provide him with opportunities to participate in sports and pursue his dreams. Her belief in him, even when circumstances have been challenging, continues to motivate him to work hard and make the most of every opportunity.

Looking ahead, Isaac hopes to continue playing football at the college level. He wants to compete against top talent, continue developing his skills, and discover how far his dedication can take him. He is committed to growing both academically and athletically while making his family proud. He also hopes his journey will inspire younger athletes to understand that success is not determined by when they start, but by their willingness to work hard, remain dedicated, and believe in themselves.

A quote Isaac lives by is, “Control what you can control.” This philosophy guides him both on and off the field. He understands that he cannot control every situation, outcome, or other people’s opinions, but he can control his attitude, preparation, and response to challenges. By concentrating on what he can influence, Isaac continues to move forward with purpose and determination.

Isaac would like to express his gratitude to his mother and family for their constant support and belief in him. He also gives a special shoutout to all the coaches who have helped shape his football journey, particularly Coach Harris and the entire coaching staff at John W. North High School, for believing in him, pushing him to improve, and providing him with the opportunity to contribute to the team. He is equally thankful for his teammates, past and present, recognizing that football is a team sport and that the accomplishments and forever memories he cherishes would not be possible without the people who have shared the field with him.

He is grateful for the opportunity to be recognized as Athlete of the Week and to share his story with the community. With his sights set on collegiate football and a determination to keep improving, Isaac knows his journey is far from over.

As someone who has watched Isaac compete on the football field, I can say Coach Harris selected a deserving athlete for this recognition. This Husky truly goes hard on the field, bringing the effort and determination needed to help his team succeed. His accomplishments reflect not only his athletic ability but also the dedication and preparation he puts into his craft.

As a special celebration of Isaac’s accomplishments, he was presented with an Athlete of the Week patch for his letterman’s jacket. Sponsored by TME Photography and Harley’s, the patch represents more than a moment of recognition, it is a keepsake honoring the commitment, preparation, and passion Isaac has shown throughout his athletic journey. May it always remind him of this chapter in his football and Track and Field career and the people who have supported him along the way.
