San Bernardino police have arrested a man accused of attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. Police said on Tuesday, June 30, they were dispatched to Third and Waterman regarding an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. The suspect, Ryan Andrade of San Bernardino, 21, was later observed on store surveillance video following the victim out of the store, according to police. They said the suspect grabbed the victim in a headlock and used a sharp object as a weapon to forcibly escort the victim to a secluded area where he then attempted to rape her. The victim was able to escape with minor injuries. The suspect was located in the downtown area a few hours later and was positively identified by the victim as the person responsible for the assault. The subsequent investigation tied Andrade to another similar assault that occurred last week, police said. While being interviewed by investigators, police said the suspect admitted his involvement in previous assaults in the area, including one on June 25 that was committed in the Carousel Mall parking lot. A release by police says Andrade was booked into the San Bernardino City jail. Members of the San Bernardino Police Department Specialized Crimes are continuing their investigation. Please contact Detective Vasilis or Sergeant Birnbaum with any further information at 909-384-5615.
