First Christian Church

For 150 years, this congregation has worked within the community and around the world to share the mission of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. In 1868, a preacher by the name of B.F. Standifer began to gather people to worship. Each gathering would take place on the corner of 5th and D street.

However, through the years, they would meet in a variety of locations. That was until 1937, in which they were finally able to settle in at 10th and Arrowhead.

That property was sold in 2012, but the congregation continues their ministry at 2102 E. Foothill Drive, with Sunday worship at 10:00 am.

Through the years, First Christian Church has brought up community leaders, educators, and Christian families.  They have provided space for community programs to meet, and have developed programs for children and youth in our city.  They are particularly proud of the establishment of the Japanese Christian Church, a Home Mission Project in the early 20th century.

Recently, the church has become an Open and Affirming congregation, continuing their commitment to welcoming all to the Lord’s Table.  The church would like to extend invitations to the public to join them in some of their regular gatherings. Please see the list below for list:
