GTHS Athlete of the Week - Josiah Strahan

Josiah Strahan is a standout 17 year old Senior at Grand Terrace High School, balancing academic excellence and athletic dedication with remarkable grace. With an impressive 4.384 GPA, Josiah exemplifies what it means to be a well rounded Titan, staying on top of his studies while also excelling in sports.

Josiah’s athletic journey began at the young age of five, but it wasn’t until his freshman year at GTHS that he officially joined Cross Country and Tennis. He competed in Cross Country from 9th through 11th grade, but his senior year is all about Tennis which is his true passion.

Now a leader on the Tennis team, Josiah didn’t start off as a star player. “I started freshman year on the bench,” he shared. “I didn’t start my first varsity game until midway through my sophomore year.” But his dedication paid off. Last season, he and doubles partner Ethan Wheeler placed 4th in Tennis Individuals, and this year, Josiah is proudly leading the team in his final high school season.

Beyond sports, Josiah enjoys playing video games late at night with his friends, spending time with family, attending ASB events, and watching all game sports, especially the NFL, where he proudly supports the Arizona Cardinals.

One of his greatest academic accomplishments is that he hasn’t received a B grade since his first semester of 7th grade. A streak he’s determined to maintain through graduation.

When asked what motivates him, Josiah said, “Every Tennis player before me has left a legacy on the court at GT. As the last remaining four year player on the team, I feel it’s my responsibility to carry that legacy forward for the next generation.”

After graduation, Josiah plans to attend Crafton Hills College to earn an Associate’s Degree in Biology, then transfer to a four-year university to pursue a career in Dentistry and eventually become an Orthodontist.

Josiah finds guidance and strength in his faith. A quote he cherishes is from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a: "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude."

He also wants to thank those who have helped him along the way: “I would’ve never gotten this far without my family for relentlessly picking me up from practice, believing in me, and being my biggest supporters from day one. I also couldn’t have done it without Jesus. I trusted Him to guide me, and He’s led me to a pretty good place.”

We wish Josiah Strahan the absolute best in all his future endeavors. This Titan’s journey is just beginning, and we have no doubt he will make a lasting impact on the world. The best is yet to come for him!
