Community Christian College, a Redlands Christian College, held its 17th Commencement on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at its Redlands location, 1849 Wabash Avenue. The college awarded fully accredited AA degrees to eight college graduates. The students who graduated are: Andrea Espinosa, Daisy Gonzales, Lorissa Lopez, Sicily Martinez, Jared Rhodes, Adam Rincon, Kenia Rubalcava, and Serena Shumate. All eight graduates are furthering their education at four year Christian Colleges. Students will be attending Biola University, California Baptist University, Westmont College, and Liberty University. According to Josh Turansky, College President, all eight graduates worked extremely hard during their two years at community Christian College and will be real assets to the four year colleges that they will be attending. He also shared that the college accreditation is with TRACS, a Christian College accreditation group that is the same as WASC, but international in coverage. The annual tuition at Community Christian College is $6000.00 which may be primarily covered with Federal Grant money when the student qualifies on the basis of income. The college focuses on supporting students who have a need for financial assistance. During the ceremony, the eight graduates received support with attendance of parents and friends. Many of the graduates are the first in their family to receive a college degree. Student Kenia Rubalcava, read Scripture Jeremiah 29: 11-13 during the ceremony. The Commencement Address, given by Dr. Bruce Bouslough, Professor at the college, was spoken to the graduates about choices that they will be making in the future and the need to have them based on God’s word and the Bible. He stressed the importance of Christian College and Christian faculty. He encouraged the students to stay close to God, to show love to others and to always be joyful in all things. According to Dr. Steven Avalos, Academic Officer, Dr. Bouslough is a very popular faculty member with the students and he has a real love for quality Christian education and it shows in the lives of his former students. Also speaking were three of the graduates: Jared Rhodes, who shared how he learned so much at Community Christian College about himself, who he is, and what he plans to do in life. Andrea Espinoza told of the love that everyone at the college showed her and how she found God to be so important in her life. She said that the college became like a family to her. Serena Shumate spoke about the college changing her life and that she is a different person than when she had started. She plans to become a teacher. Marilyn Hope, Information Services, gave the charge to the graduates. Her main two themes were trusting joyously in the Lord and supporting and helping others. Provost , David Zamora, summarized the graduation with what Community Christian College is all about—outstanding academic education, spiritual growth of the students, giving of themselves to family, friends, and community, and lastly to be Christian leaders.
