Electronics Recycling Event Raises Funds for HSSBV; San Bernardino Residents Turn Old Electronics Into Benefits for Pets Fund

San Bernardino residents and their furry friends joined The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley (HSSBV) last Saturday morning, for their annual e-Waste Recycle fundraiser event. Televisions, computers, cellphones, and fax machines were among the electronics donated, in working condition or not, to raise funds for the low-cost services that the HSSBV provides to San Bernardino pet owners. The donated electronics were recycled for free with the help of Go Green Electronics Recycling Services. Over one hundred residents donated over 1,000 electronics during the event. In addition to being a good way to raise money, Jill Henderson, the Development and Community Outreach Coordinator at HSSBV said that the e-Waste recycling event is a good way to inform the community about the services offered at HSSBV. “Some people come just for the e-Waste recycling, and they are surprised to find out about the services we offer,” Henderson explained. One of the programs that this event, and others like it, help fund is the Saturday shot clinic, which today coincided with the fundraising event. “We have the low cost vaccine clinic every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is the fundraisers like our event today that keep the costs low,” said Henderson. Kathleen Curtis, a San Bernardino resident came in with her two pets Georgie and Jack, for the low cost vaccinations. “They are always friendly, welcoming, and informative here. They go through great lengths to keep the costs low. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
