COLTON>> The CART Academy (Colton at Risk Teens Academy) is a regional paramilitary program designed to instill discipline and guidance for at risk kids.

The CART Academy is a regional program operated by the Colton, San Bernardino and San Bernardino School police departments.  The program empowers at risk youths to be better citizens, make ethical choices in life and to stay in school.  There are over 21 different governmental entities and faith based organizations involved.   Attending will be parents, outside agencies and leaders from city, county and school districts.

The EARP Competition, in which the CART Academy and Rialtos Pride Platoon competed for the Earp Challenge Cup, a trophy which will be awarded to the victor of each military academy in the Inland Empire, was held on Thursday, April 20 2017 at 10:00 a.m..

The Colton police department began with a Town Marshal the legendary Virgil Earp.  The Earp family was the first law enforcement in the city, and has been influential not only to the city of Colton, but also to the men and woman of our police department.  History has shown us the Earp family was involved in a gun fight in Arizona, and on March 18, 1882, Morgan Earp was assassinated.  Morgan Earp was transported by rail road to the city of Colton, the Earp Challenge is named after the family in their honor.

Over eight communities with students from similar backgrounds were represented during the games, which lasted for an hour.

Prior to the games was a moment of silence for the North Park victims and community of San Bernardino.

Vietnam Vet Zach Earp from the Earp family was in attendance on behalf of the Earp family. He also presented the trophy to the winner of the academy games.

Lenos Tacos also provided lunch as a courtesy.
