Redlands Police arrested a man suspected of robbing the same gas station convenience store three times over a span of less than three weeks. Jeffrey Warren Cierley, 23, of Cerritos, was arrested Monday, Oct. 19, shortly after an armed robbery at the 76 Gas Station, 1075 Parkford Drive. The station had also been robbed on Oct. 5 and again on Oct. 12. In each of the robberies, the suspect was armed with a knife and stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing. Following the Oct. 12 robbery, police set up a targeted investigation, deploying one of two new mobile Rapid Deployment Surveillance cameras at the station. The new cameras, purchased by the department over the summer through a 2014 Homeland Security grant and Asset Forfeiture funds, can be quickly deployed anywhere with an available power source in response to changing crime trends. Each camera unit includes a fixed lens and a second lens with point-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capability. Video from the cameras is streamed directly to the RPD Dispatch Center but can also be called up on officers’ cell phones. The cameras’ high-resolution and easy mobility make them an effective tool. Based on ongoing crime analysis and known “hot spots,” Redlands Police have deployed the units at several locations in the City. At about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, when the most recent robbery occurred, officers were able to use the camera to get an immediate description of the suspect. Police located the suspect’s vehicle, a blue 1996 Toyota pickup described in the earlier robberies, driven by Cierley and conducted a traffic stop in the 34000 block of Avenue I in Yucaipa. Cash and cigarettes taken during the robbery were located in the truck. Cierley is being held for armed robbery at West Valley Detention Center. Bail has been set at $100,000.
