Parents, grandparents, and guardians who want to be champions for their children are invited to register for the free Parent Leadership Institute 2013, being held Oct. 7 through 11. The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s Family Resource Center started the Parent Leadership Institute to help parents and guardians understand the possibilities and difficulties children face and how to guide them in making good choices. “The main goal of the Institute is to help parents become the leaders they would like to be for children and families,” Family Involvement Officer Mars Serna said. “We hope to develop communities of parents that will support one another in skill development and successful parent action for children.” The Parent Leadership Institute 2013 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon October 7–11 at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 265 W. 25th Street in San Bernardino. Topics will include Linked Learning: The New Pathway to College and Career; Twenty Ways to Graduation; and Keeping Kids Safe from Gangs and Drugs. Free childcare and Spanish interpretation will be provided. Free American Sign Language interpretation is available upon request. The Institute is free and open to all parents, grandparents, and guardians while space is available. To register or for more information, please call Emily Valdez or Kenyada Wagoner, Family Resource Center, at 909-880-4057.
