The Senior Community Center in Moreno Valley recently hosted the 26th Annual Fashion Show & Tea Party. Pat Box, a Soroptimist member since 2001, said, "It was an honor to be a part of such a great event" as she checked in and assigned tables for the guests as they were walking in. Soroptimist is a global women's organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. The name Soroptimist means "best for women." Sandy Ferguson, President of Soroptimist Intl., described the event as "A major fundraiser, a big project that works hand in hand with all women," including Carol Alba whom they got together for a project called "MECCA" an organization that serves people who need clothing and food. She used this event as a means of getting the word out and thanking all those who were involved. The musical entertainment was brought by a group of ladies known as Harmony Etcetera. The models in the fashion show were none other than community members who have chosen to take a career in the service arena such as: Gilbert Anchondo, a volunteer reserve fire fighter for the City of Moreno Valley; JR Morgan, a U.S Army Sergeant; and Altie Holcomb, a marine in the Marine Corps for 20 years, participated in the fashion show; there were a total of 7 models. The fashion was provided by Stien Mart, a local clothing store. Also in this event, there were many door prizes and specialty basket raffle drawings, all held by Becky Read who at the end of the evening thanked everyone for coming and said "this fundraiser helped support many of the local service projects and programs benefiting women and girls in our community."
