2016 Resolution: Help End Homelessness

By

As you’re contemplating that New Year’s Resolution and how you plan on spending 2016, you might want to turn your attention towards the community in helping others exit life on the streets of Grand Terrace and surrounding areas. One way to do this is participating in the Point-In-Time Count (PITC), a group of adult volunteers who contribute in countless ways. Among the tasks are helping to organize the count of homeless persons living in your community; identifying locations where the homeless live and spend time and receive services; promote community awareness of homeless issues; participate on Street Counter Teams. Volunteers are need from every community and from all walks of life including: college students, civic and non-profit organizations, faith-based institutions, current and formerly homeless, bilingual individuals, service providers, business and neighborhood groups, and anyone who would like to help alleviate homelessness in the community. This effort will help promote government and private grant fundraising and other resources for local communities to help people exit life on the streets and end homelessness. Volunteers will be needed starting Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 from 6-10 a.m. For more information or to sign up for a volunteer position, please see the San Bernardino County Homeless Counts website: www.sanbernardinocountyhomelesscounts.com, or contact Jesse Smith at 909-824-6621, jsmith@grandterrace-ca.gov.
