COLTON>> Kelly Chastain, former mayor of Colton and former Colton City Council member, announced her campaign to run for Colton City Council District 3. After living in Colton for 50 years and serving as the mayor from 2006 to 2010 and the Colton City Council from 1996 to 2006, Chastain said she sees the needs and has concerns for the City of Colton. Now that her children are grown and she can use her previous experiences, she said she has more time to commit to the position on the city council. She said she would like to see more developments in the city including clean streets, economic development and would like to be sure city services are performing well and ensuring residents feel valued. “There are some needs that I would like to see in the City of Colton like economic development and businesses, basic cleanup of some of the areas in the city, providing good services to residents, have the city be a place where one can feel safe and have a sense of community. Just get back to the basics making Colton,” Chastain said. One accomplishment that she said she is proud of is the Colton Crossing Railroad Project, which provided a quiet zone and Laurel Street underpass for residents in the area along with other beautifications that was made possible by working together with the railroads and SANBAG. “I know we have had an economic downturn but I believe were on the upswing of things and should be seeing growth,” Chastain said. “There are still opportunities for Colton to have great businesses come to our city,” Chastain said. “We need great paying jobs that will help support revenue coming into the city so that we can pay for the city services, which helps make the city work well and be safe.” Chastain is a longtime member of the Colton Foursquare Church, also known as the Radiant Church where she has served as the secretary, organizer and event planner since 2011. She has been married to her husband, Marlon Chastain, since 1984 and has two children Justin, 24, and Jenna, 17. Chastain’s education background includes graduating from Colton High School in 1981 with honors, taking two years of business courses at San Bernardino Valley College and completing the Leadership Development & Training Service Program at the University of Southern California.
