March is Red Cross Month, and the American Red Cross takes this opportunity to recognize all who help them fulfill their mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. For more than 70 years, all U.S. presidents have designated March as Red Cross Month in recognition of everyone who reaches out to help their neighbors when they are in need. In 2013, the Red Cross responded to over 1,200 disasters across the region, providing shelter, food, emotional support, and assisting individuals and families with their immediate needs. Additionally, 212,118 individuals were trained in CPR and first aid skills and 400,000 lifesaving blood products were provided to local patients. Throughout March, Red Cross chapters in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties will be hosting free events that will educate and engage community members. Events include individual and family preparedness fairs, fire safety and awareness canvassing events, a volunteer opportunity fair and multiple proclamation presentations. All events are free and open to the public. Below is a calendar of two local events taking place this month: Thursday, March 20 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Earthquake and Disaster Preparedness Presentation - San Bernardino County Chapter 202 West Rialto Avenue San Bernardino, CA 92408 RSVP required: (714) 481-5351 Tuesday, March 25 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Earthquake and Disaster Preparedness Presentation - Riverside County Chapter 6235 River Crest Dr. Riverside, CA 92507 RSVP required: (714) 481-5351
