With nothing but A’s on her transcripts, Diana L. Coffey (Redlands) received the President’s Award recently at the Scholars Convocation. The President’s Award requires a nomination from CHC faculty or staff and then selection by the President, Dr. Cheryl Marshall. “This is by far one of my favorite things to do,” said Marshall, “and one of the most difficult because of the outstanding nominations received.” Coffey was nominated by Dr. Diane Pfahler, professor of psychology. “She is one of the most outstanding people I have ever met,” said Pfahler. “She is a superb student, an active member and officer of several student clubs, she has worked as a student instructor, and she was instrumental in establishing the community garden on campus.” Coffey has a 4.0 grade point average and is graduating with an associate’s degree in psychology. She will transfer to CSUSB this fall with the ultimate goal of achieving a Ph.D. in psychology. As a student at Crafton Hills, Coffey presented three of her psychology projects to the Western Psychological Association and was active in a number of clubs, including the Health Sciences Club and Psi Beta, and a volunteer at the Blessing Center in Redlands. “I have focused on being a mentor to students in finding their community service potential through my leadership,” said Coffey. Marshall agrees, adding, “Diana has been active everywhere on campus, she’s been a great role model to other students, and it’s always a joy to see her smiling face.” As one of the 112 colleges in the California community college system, Crafton Hills College is committed to providing citizens in the region with an accessible higher education. The philosophy of California's community colleges is that education is the key to better jobs, a better economy, and a better quality of life. CHC offers 53 degree programs and 25 occupational certificate programs.
