Luis Gonzalez Seeks District 4 Seat

Dr. Luis S. Gonzalez will run to represent Colton’s District 4 on the November ballot with the primary focus of listening to Colton’s residents, Gonzalez said. Gonzalez, known by his community as “Dr. G,” said it was “the people of Colton” who initiated his decision to run for the District 4 seat. “They are looking for a representative who will listen, and who will speak on their behalf, will work to find solutions, and who will vote, looking out for their safety, best interests and well-being,” Gonzalez said. Gonzalez, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of the Pacific, an artist diploma from the University of Calgary and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati, Gonzalez was a runner-up in the 2012 election for city council. Gonzalez said he will bring “honesty and integrity, commitment and hard work, and transparency and trust” to the council if he is elected, with focuses on “better communication and collaboration” between council members, staff and residents; “better business relations” including business recruitment, retention and a business-friendly city; and focus on Colton’s history to “remember the past and to honor our citizens, past, present and future.” Gonzalez said his attendance at council meetings and civic events has helped him “learn how our city operates,” and that his interaction with Colton residents through community events and “one-on-one” talks have helped him learn what the citizens want, he said. “I follow through,” Gonzalez said. “Realizing that I cannot make promises, I do my very best to follow through on communications, my efforts and my commitments. From the residents I receive my direction, from personal study on the issues and from the conviction to get things done, I try to see that the issue is addressed and the job gets done.” Gonzalez concluded, “I’m old enough, young enough, intelligent enough and energetic enough to take on this responsibility. I ask that you consider me not only for who I am, but for what I have done.” Gonzalez runs against candidate Richard Prieto for the District 4 seat.
