Business owner John Montgomery is running this November to represent Redlands as a member of the City Council. “I was compelled to run for Redlands City Council because of my love and pride for our special city,” Montgomery said. “The sense of community we feel here requires a government that respects and defends it. As an owner of two businesses, a father of children in the public schools and as a member of multiple civic groups I believe that I am well qualified to be a prime candidate.” Montgomery said he has many goals for the city if elected to the dais, including adding to business growth and working to combat crime and drug-related incidents in the city. “I would like to work with the other council members to ease restrictions and roadblocks for small businesses to grow and thrive in our city,” Montgomery said. “My main goal as a member of city council would be to boost our economy by streamlining and deregulating business development, especially small business.” Furthermore, any civic “programs in place now should be reviewed and re-evaluated to see what is truly working and what is not,” Montgomery said. Montgomery finished, “If elected, I would bring a new voice to the council, representing the voice of the growing demographic of our city. I would also bring real world business experience and level-headed consensus building.” Other candidates for city council this year include incumbents Jon Harrison and Paul Foster, who both seek re-election; and candidates Paul Barich, Neil Derry, Jane Dreher and Tabetha Wittenmyer.
