MORENO VALLEY>>The City of Moreno Valley will celebrate National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week from Tuesday, Nov. 8 through Saturday, Nov. 12 in honor of the work animal shelters do to help find homeless animals permanent homes, rescue neglected and abused animals and reunite lost pets with their families. Residents can help the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter celebrate National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week by adopting one of the shelter's dogs or cats and providing them a loving, forever home. During National Animal Shelter & Rescue Appreciation Week, prospective pet owners will be able to adopt a new pet for just $5. Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, the first round of vaccinations and a HomeAgain microchip. This week's special $5 adoption promotion includes: all cats and kittens, all senior dogs 6 years of age and older and all pitbull and pitbull mixed dogs. All other dogs will be available for adoption for a $50 fee. The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, located at 14041 Elsworth Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92553, will be open between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Animal Shelter will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran's Day. There are an estimated 6-8 million homeless animals that seek refuge each year, but only about half are adopted. More than 60 percent of American households have pets, but fewer than 20 percent of pets were adopted from shelters. If you are unable to adopt a pet, but know someone who would love to bring home a new dog or cat to love, Adoption Gift Certificates are available at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter. For more information about the adoption promotion, please contact the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter at 951.413.3790 or visit the city's website at www.moval.org and click on "Animal Shelter."
