LLU Health Drayson Center Preventive Care Clinic Forms Full Plate Diet Support Group

Loma Linda University (LLU) Health Drayson Center Preventive Care Clinic has formed a support group for former and current participants in the Full Plate Diet program. Other interested individuals are also invited to participate. The group will meet at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Martinson Room, Loma Linda University Health Drayson Center, 25040 Stewart St., Loma Linda. A membership fee of $20 will be charged for joining the group. Among the activities planned for the support group are lectures, group dynamics, body composition assessments, recipe demonstrations, healthy refreshments, and distribution of Christmas gifts. “There is an evidence that all health programs that promote change of lifestyle need to have a long term follow up in order to be effective,” said Dr. Hildemar Dos Santos, assistant professor at Loma Linda University School of Public Health and Drayson Center Preventive Care Clinic director, who supervises the Full Plate Diet program. “With this in mind, we are creating a monthly program about the Full Plate Diet program. The program will feature the Full Plate Diet concept of eating more fiber and plant-based foods and is open either for former participants or to the public,” he said. The concept of the Full Plate Diet is taken from the best-selling book of the same name, which has sparked a nationwide weight-loss movement. Most people need to eat more (three to four times more) natural fiber-rich foods, which tend to make people eat fewer calories than they burn, thus resulting in weight loss, according to program developers. Loma Linda University Health Drayson Center Preventive Care Clinic regularly hosts sessions for the diet program. For further information, call 909-558-8690.
