California Baptist University (CBU) is one step closer to providing for the healthcare needs of underserved communities. Faculty, staff and community members gathered on the campus of CBU on August 30 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 39-foot-long College of Nursing Mobile Health Clinic that will soon embark into local communities.

The ceremony included a discussion on the future impact of the clinic led by Dr. Karen Bradley, vice president of CBU Health, and Dr. Chuck Sands, provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs. The event culminated with a dedication and ribbon cutting by CBU President Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, donor Sherry Messner and Dr. Angel Coaston, associate dean of Clinical Academic Practice Partnerships.

“The Nursing Mobile Health Clinic is a perfect example of what CBU represents: identifying a need, developing a plan to meet the need and serving others through the fulfillment of that need,” said Ellis. “CBU is committed to serving others in this way every day as we continue to individually and collectively live our purpose.”

Staffed by nurse practitioners, registered nurses and students from CBU’s College of Nursing, the Mobile Health Clinic will offer a range of services including health screenings, immunizations, lab testing, diabetes care, treatment for acute and chronic illnesses and more. By providing no-cost or low-cost primary and specialized care, the clinic will work to prevent emergency cases by providing access to early diagnosis and treatment before complications arise. CBU will utilize its local church partnerships to identify underserved communities in need.

“The Nursing Mobile Health Clinic delivers upon CBU’s commitment to serve the community while offering students hands-on experience in the field and meeting the healthcare demands of our region,” said Bradley. “Our students are invested in this initiative, and we look forward to soon deploying these resources to communities that will benefit from foundational care.”

The clinic plans to launch in late fall, beginning its services in Riverside and San Bernardino counties with plans to expand throughout Southern California.
