On Sept. 28, the Riverside Convention Center hosted the 6th annual Pink Runway Fashion Show which focused on raising breast cancer awareness, providing information to breast cancer survivors and their families, and to contributing to the quality of life for every survivor. Started by the Loma Linda University Health System under the Department of Plastic Surgery, the Pink Runway presented breast cancer survivors modeling the latest clothes provided by Chico's, a participating clothing store. Family members and friends cheered for their loved ones who survived breast cancer as they modeled the latest fashion designs. Survivors were given the opportunity to share their stories of their battle. Before the fashion show began, a pre-show was held were survivors and their supporters browsed the booths present that were showcasing the latest technology and information on diagnosing breast cancer. One of the booths attending the event was Susan G. Korman for the Cure where activist Yvonne Graham provided information on breast cancer. One of the many survivor stories shared was that of Mireya Medrano, a 25-year-old, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2014 and has since successfully beaten the disease. Medrano has shaved the symbol of a breast cancer awareness ribbon on the back of her head to help spread awareness. As the ceremony began, Dr. Subha Gupta of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Loma Linda Hospital and Tina Sugandh hosted the show, sharing a yoga presentation to clear the mind, foods that help fight the development of breast cancer, and raffling off prizes to attendees.
