The city is still seeking volunteers for a General Plan Steering Committee to advise the Planning Commission and City Council during the General Plan update. The deadline for accepting applications to the committee has been extended to July 24. Residents who live within the city and its planning sphere are invited to submit an application. Candidates should have lived within the city or its planning sphere for at least three years. Six members will be chosen to represent specific disciplines, including Business/Real Estate; Education; Cultural Arts; Historic Resources; Parks and Trails; and Open Space and Agriculture. Open seats for primary and/or alternate representatives are still available for Education, Historic Resources, Parks and Trails, and Open Space and Agriculture. Another seven members will be selected from the city’s planning areas. With the exception of the Downtown and West End, applicants must live within the planning area they seek to represent. Other planning areas are: Lugonia; The Colony; University District; East Valley; and Highland/Canyon lands. A link to a map showing the boundaries of each planning area is available at www.cityofredlands.org/gp recruiting. Open seats for primary and/or alternate representatives are still available for Downtown, the Colony, Highland/Canyon lands, Lugonia, East Valley, and Crafton. Two additional members will be chosen to represent communities in the city’s planning sphere – Mentone and Crafton. Applicants in these areas should reside in the respective planning spheres and need not be city residents. Open seats for a primary and/or alternate representative are still available for each. The Steering Committee will serve in an advisory role to the Planning Commission and the City Council. The recommendations of the committee will be forwarded to the Planning Commission and City Council for their review and deliberation while considering the General Plan Update. The committee will meet a limited number of times over the two-year update period. Committee members are expected to bring perspectives from each respective discipline or planning area; review and understand background data and information; consider opportunities and challenges facing the city; discuss proposals and alternatives; provide thoughtful input; make recommendations to the approving authorities; pass knowledge and information to the community; and collaborate with fellow committee members in a respectful and considerate manner. Applications are available on the City’s website at www.cityofredlands.org/gp recruiting or at the City Clerk’s Office at 35 Cajon St., Suite 4. Applicants should submit a completed application and a resume to the City Clerk’s Office before the deadline at 5 p.m. Friday, July 24. Completed packets may be emailed to City Clerk Sam Irwin at sirwin@cityofredlands.org.
