The City is hosting an Asthma Education Workshop to provide education about asthma on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Moreno Valley Public Library. The workshop is part of an increasing effort to help provide the community with information that may improve overall quality in the lives of its residents. Since asthma is the leading chronic illness in children in the United States and Moreno Valley is largely made up of families with children under 18 years of age, we hope to help many families in this area. It is well documented that Moreno Valley residents contribute to emergency room visits related to trouble with asthma. The workshop will be presented by an expert in asthma education and is specifically designed to help adults, children, families and seniors learn about how to control and manage their asthma. The upcoming workshop will also teach individuals about asthma symptoms and identify resources available in the local community. The Feb. 3 workshop will be presented by the Riverside County Department of Public Health. The Library is located at 25480 Alessandro Blvd. More information about Asthma can be found at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at http://www.cdc.gov/asthma.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
