Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) offers maternity tours and preparation for childbirth classes regularly through its mother-baby unit located on the third floor of the hospital at 400 North Pepper Avenue, in Colton. ARMC is dedicated to preparing families for childbirth and keeping mothers and babies together for a family-centered experience. In 2009, Baby-Friendly® USA, Inc. designated ARMC as a Baby-Friendly hospital, a distinction currently held by only 267 U.S. hospitals and birthing centers. The public is invited to join the hospital for the following events: Maternity Tours: Expectant parents are invited to come learn about delivering their child at ARMC. A guided tour is provided of ARMC’s Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby units so parents can learn about the many services available. Refreshments are provided. A breastfeeding introduction class is available following the tour. The free tours are conducted from 10 to 11 a.m., the third Wednesday of each month, at the third-floor mother-baby conference room. Preparation for Childbirth Classes: This five-week class prepares expectant parents for the most positive and rewarding birth experience possible. Individuals learn about breathing and relaxation techniques, the physical and emotional changes to expect, and the types of medications sometimes used in labor. It is recommended that classes be started 10 to 12 weeks before the due date. The classes are held from 9 to 11:30 a.m., on Sundays (English class); and from 6:30 to 9 p.m., on Mondays (Spanish class), at the third-floor mother-baby conference room. Tours of ARMC’s remodeled mother-baby unit featuring state-of-the-art private suites for post-partum care will be available soon. In addition to tours and classes for new parents, ARMC offers new parents support and education before they leave the hospital. For more information, or to register for a tour or childbirth class, call 909-580-3174.
