After the way California Baptist University ended last season — and with the amount of players from the squad returning — it doesn't really come as a surprise the Lancers open the season as the No. 3-ranked team in Division II. The WBCA/USA Today Sports Preason Top 25 Division II Women's Coaches' Poll puts CBU in the third spot behind No. 2 Lewis and No. 1 Emoria State, with the Lancers grabbing 487 points in the poll and three first-place votes. The 2014-15 NCAA Division II Champions California University of Pennsylvania debuts as the No. 5 team, despite picking up six first-place votes. CBU ended last season on a historic run to advance all the way to the championship game. The Lancers, who went 29-7 on the season, return five starters to the lineup, including leading scorers Courtney Nelson (15.4 ppg) and Cassidy Mihalko (14.9 ppg). Kamille Diaz, who finished the year in the point guard spot, also returns for CBU after averaging 13.6 points per game and a team-high 4.6 assists per game. The Lancers open season on Nov. 13 in Montana, taking on Montana State-Billings at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
