Redlands to Begin 90 Miles of Street Resurfacing

Miles of Redlands roads are going to get a makeover as the city begins construction this week on the next part of the PARIS Resurfacing Project. Approximately 90 lane miles of city streets will be resurfaced over the next six months, according to a release issued by the city. Upon completion of this phase, nearly 200 miles of lane resurfacing - approximately 48 percent of the PARIS project - will have been completed. Work in this stage will occur in phases throughout the city over the next six months, with completion anticipated in October, according to the release. Street rehabilitation projects have been ongoing since April 2014, when the PARIS project officially broke ground. Matich Corp. of San Bernardino was awarded a $10,497,000 contract for the project, which is part of two Council-approved street rehabilitation projects to address the city's surface street repair and maintenance needs, the release states. According to the release, "When fully implemented, the program will result in rehabilitation and repair of two-thirds of the City’s street infrastructure over a five-year period." Funds for the project come through Measure I, a half-cent sales tax approved in San Bernardino County, and the city's Local Transportation fund; it is designed an managed by the city's Municipal Utilities and Engineering department. During rehabilitation, "No Parking" signs will be posted on affected streets indicating dates when work will occur and when parking will be prohibited. Access to properties will be available at all times and trash collection will occur on normal trash collection days, the release states.
