It was was a food and fashion frenzy at the Women’s Club of San Bernardino (WCSB) on Wednesday April 2nd as the ladies of WCSB hosted a fundraiser at their clubhouse. All proceeds from the event were donated to Lighthouse for Blind, Salvation Army and other service clubs. Dress Barn of Fontana provided the runway ladies with all of the fashions. WCSB, which has over 100 active members from throughout the community, has fundraisers like this one every month, all open to the public. “If you want to contribute to the community or even if you are just tired of sitting at home, come join us-you’ll be so glad you did!” says member Cheri Bronstrup. The event started off with a hearty luncheon of baked chicken breasts, cheesy baked potatoes and rice. After everyone ate, the ladies mingled and chatted with each other enjoying atmosphere until it was time for the fashion show to begin. The models disappeared backstage to begin their speed changing, and Dress Barn supervisor Jody Agreda directed everyone’s attention to the stage as the show began. First the models hit the stage in casual-cute ensembles and they showed everyone that you cannot go wrong with a combination of blues in the springtime. Next the ladies strutted their stuff in comfortable-chic get-ups; earthy colors and loose-fitting clothing are perfect for this type of style. Each model graced the runway in professional outfits that were both classy and sassy. The brief intermissions were filled in with a few raffle giveaways; Each prize basket was hand-made by the 2nd Vice President Co-Officer Ruberta Resendez and her committee. As the show continued each lady hit the stage for the last go-around in very beautiful, elegant dresses. The audience applauded the show and the models embraced one another and bowed to the audience. When asked how difficult is the role of President of WCSB, Carolyn Amaral replies, “Well there is a lot more work than I thought it would be. But I have a lot of help from Kate (1st Vice President).” Many of the women there have been members of the Women’s Club of San Bernardino since the early 1990s. “The best part about being a part of the Women’s Club is meeting new people and helping out the community”, says long-time member Jeanene Buchanan. The Women’s Club of San Bernardino have been committed to community service since 1892 and they continue their service by providing college scholarships, donating to the Veterans Hospital, Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital and Guide Dogs to the visually impaired.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
