Mayor's Message Class of 2020

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Coronavirus has caused the graduating Class of 2020 to have to do without a long-awaited traditional commencement ceremony. So the City of MoVal is partnering with Moreno Valley Unified and the Moreno Valley Education Foundation to show the community's support by helping residents recognize and celebrate grads through "Adopt-a-Senior."

To participate, simply email Moreno Valley Education Foundation at mvedfoundation@gmail.com, indicating any preferences for a specific grad or school, and you'll be helped to determine the most appropriate contribution (i.e., gift card, an encouraging letter, Class of 2020 t-shirt, etc). Approximately 400 of this year's 2,200 MVUSD graduates have been "adopted" by residents so far. This is also a wonderful opportunity for businesses looking for a way to contribute to the community and help mitigate the social effects of coronavirus. To make a financial contribution to Adopt-a-Senior, visit the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/manage/moreno-valley-education-foundation-adoptasenior.

Meanwhile, MoVal’s iconic M on Box Springs Mountain will be sporting the school colors of all the MVUSD and VVUSD high schools in the City from June 8-12. The colors will appear on the evenings of their graduation events. On evenings like June 8 with three graduations, the school colors will take turns, a minute at a time. So be sure to look for the colors of your school, grads, and know that our entire community shares your pride and excitement.

On behalf of the City Council and all City employees, congratulations to the Class of 2020!
