Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) held a Donor and Volunteer Recognition Event for 25 steadfast donors and individuals on July 21. Their support of the mission of CAPSBC to help the lift up the low income and empower them to achieve self-reliance is inspiring. CAPSBC is extremely grateful to our donors that provide continuous support by helping us serve the less fortunate in our communities. Many honorees in attendance talked about their belief in community service. Volunteers spoke of how much they enjoyed coming to help at CAPSBC's Food Bank because it gave them an opportunity to do something different and it felt good knowing they were helping others. A Family Development Program volunteer talked about wanting to help because she believed you have to support your community any way you can. She had learned about CAPSBC programs and services some 20 years ago from a family member who was employed at CAPSBC and just knew she had to help with the mission. She helps every year with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and recently she helped with the 2015 Kids Summer Camp Experience program. CEO Patricia L. Nickols-Butler spoke to the group of honorees stating, "Your support has been so important to the community and to those in need. We are deeply grateful for all that you do." She also stated, "You are truly helping people and changing lives." The following agencies and individuals were honored: Amazon North American Fulfillment Center, Stater Bros., Wells Fargo Bank, RDI Engineering, Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management, Sears, Kaiser Permanente Fontana and Ontario Medical Centers, Albertson's Supermarkets, RR Transport Express, Inc., Union Bank, Mattel, Inc., ACH Baker Distributors, Johnstone Supply, Home Depot, Community Bank, and volunteers Dara Picou, Paula Colorado, Dewey Kelleygray, and Karyn Chapman.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
