The San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education announced that a vacancy on the governing body will be filled with a temporary appointment.
Board Vice President Bobbie Perong resigned from the Board effective July 1, creating a vacancy on the seven-member board.
The Board will be accepting applications for the open seat until 2 p.m. on Friday, July 31. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and a qualified voter living in the District’s attendance boundaries.
The candidate who is selected by the Board will finish Perong’s remaining term, which ends Dec. 4, 2015. Voters in the District’s boundaries will decide in November who will be elected to the four-year term.
The Board of Education provides direction for operating the District through actions taken at its meetings. Board members develop the policies by which the educational programs and other business of the District are carried out.
Those interested in being considered for the open seat may pick up a candidate information sheet from the Superintendent’s Office at the Board of Education building, 777 North F Street in San Bernardino and return it no later than July 31.
Candidates who submit an application and resume by the deadline will be invited to make a five-minute statement during a special Board meeting on Monday, Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
The meeting is open to the public.
If a large number of candidates apply for the open seat, the Board may continue candidate statements on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
The Board will make the appointment in open session at the conclusion of all candidate statements.
The appointee will then be sworn in at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting on Sept. 1.
