8th Annual Toy Drive a Success

The cold weather and light drizzle did not prevent hundreds of families from lining up at Highlanders Boxing Club to receive their free gifts on Tuesday, Dec. 22 for the club's 8th Annual Toy Drive. With an over 1,000 gifts donated from members of the community, their goal was to bring a toy to every home in need in the local area. The club strives to fight for the underprivileged families and hope to bring a smile to every face at Christmas. “Every year for the past eight years, the community has gathered to show their support,” stated Tony E. C. Cifuentes, President of Highlanders Boxing Club. “Although we only do this once a year, our doors never close.” Along with the gifts, there was a small snack area filled with holiday treats and drinks for everyone to enjoy. The only requirement was that a child must be present to receive a gift. The mission of the Highlanders Boxing Club is to mentor misguided youth. Cifuentes moved to the area from South Central Los Angeles at the age of 13 and started the gym in 2005. The toy drive began in 2007 as a way of going the extra mile for the community. If you are interested in any future events, such as the 25 fight showcase in April, please contact Tony E. C. Cifuentes, President, or Erick Gonzalez, Vice President, at (909) 496-0710 or visit their website at www.highlandersboxingclub.org
