It was a night filled with hot dogs, hot wings, beverages, music, singing and dancing to raise money for the Kiwanis Club of Redlands-Morning Scholarship Fund. This first time event, dubbed the Oldies but Goodies Fundraiser, took place at the Rodriguez Ranch.
John Coley, President of the club, shared that his favorite part of the event was the commeroderey between attendees and memebers and the "outstanding team-work," that went on there. He went on to say that the club's Scholarship Foundation benefits students at Redlands East Valley High School and also contributes to the Redlands Human Relations Commission Cesar Chavez Scholarship.
Carole Coley, John's wife, has been a member of the Kiwanis Club for 16 years and said, “We were looking for a new to raise money for our scholarship fund. We decided to use music from the oldies era for the karaoke contest because everyone likes that music. She shared, "A couple of guests did a great rendition of The Temptations, 'My Girl'. We gave out free hot dogs, sold hot wings plates, had Hanger 24 beer and served margaritas.”
Martha Warren, Michelle Coley and Patty Peoples won the karaoke contest with their rendition of "We are Family" by Sister Sledge.
The Coley's both categorize the event as a success and hope to plan another similarly themed fundraising event in the future.
