The City of Moreno Valley is further enhancing public safety and City beautification, adding eight additional sworn police officers, a third Fire Medic Squad, and additional investments in pavement rehabilitation as part of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 budgets.
The eight additional sworn police officers will be added over the next two fiscal years. The City has added over 16 sworn deputies since 2022, and with this budget approval, the total number of sworn Moreno Valley police officers will rise to 174.
The new Fire Medic Squad, which includes one new fire vehicle and six additional fire personnel, will respond to medical emergencies in Moreno Valley, which are the majority of 9-1-1 calls. This new squad is the third of its kind added by the City since February 2022.
“The City Council and I are immensely proud to further invest in public safety and infrastructure initiatives that will continue to enhance our City,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “These new investments will lead to reduced police and fire response times, improved road conditions, and cleaner streets across Moreno Valley. I want to thank our Financial & Management Services team for their hard work in crafting this budget and for consistently keeping our City financially strong.”
These new investments are part of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 budget that the Moreno Valley City Council unanimously adopted during the May 2, 2023 meeting. The adopted budget is the City’s 12th consecutive balanced budget.
The budget also will add $5.6 million from the City’s capital project fund toward pavement rehabilitation for each year of the two-year budget. This investment is in addition to the historic $50 million Pavement Rehabilitation Program that is currently revamping nearly 190 miles of road across Moreno Valley.
The adopted budget maintains the City’s additional investment in City beautification by hiring eleven Public Works Maintenance Team members and nine Parks Maintenance Team members.
