The Dr. Earl R. Crane Children’s Dental Health Center announced recently that it has received a $5,000 CVS Caremark Community Grant. The Community Grants Program was created by CVS Caremark as part of its commitment to building healthier communities. These grants support nonprofit organizations that are providing access to health care for at-risk and underserved populations. The support from CVS Caremark will help the Dr. Earl R. Crane Children’s Dental Health Center provide complete dental services, school-based oral health screening and education programs, and community outreach to students and residents of San Bernardino, Highland, Rialto and Colton. The Children’s Dental Center, a program of the Assistance League of San Bernardino, was established in 1949 to serve low income children in San Bernardino — 65 years later, its mission remains the same: to serve low income uninsured children and children with limited access, ages 5 to 18 with complete dental services for a $20 fee. The program also collaborates with the San Bernardino City Unified School District to bring oral health education and dental screenings to elementary school students. Children’s Dental Center Co-chair Mary Masasso stated, “CVS Caremark has supported the dental center programs in the past and we are profoundly grateful for their consistent support to help us sustain and expand our programs. So many children suffer needlessly because they do not know how to brush their teeth; do not own a toothbrush — or worse, must share a toothbrush with family members. The Children’s Dental Center will reach more children and youth in San Bernardino, thanks to CVS Caremark.” “As a pharmacy innovation company, we are committed to helping people on their path to better health,” said Eileen Howard Boone, senior vice president, Corporate Philanthropy & Sustainability, CVS Caremark. “We are proud to support organizations that increase access to quality health care because we know their efforts are critical to delivering better community health. We are pleased to support the work that the Dr. Earl R. Crane Children’s Dental Health Center does in the community and we look forward to working with them in fulfilling their program’s mission.” The Dr. Earl R. Crane Children’s Dental Health Center was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Caremark Community Grants application process. Grants were awarded to organizations, such as community health centers and mobile health clinics, which support CVS Caremark’s commitment to enhance the health and well-being for at-risk and underserved populations by offering quality health and rehabilitation services and health education. The goal of the CVS Caremark Community Grants Program is to provide relief for both adults and children who lack medical insurance and help ensure they receive the proper medical care they need. Dental Center hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 909-885-2045.
