Hagman Promotes Awareness of Human Trafficking

San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Vice-Chairman Curt Hagman asked all residents of the Fourth Supervisorial District to reflect upon the serious problem of human trafficking highlighted by National Human Trafficking Awareness Day this Thursday, January 11, 2018.

“Human trafficking happens in San Bernardino County” noted Hagman. “I stand with the victims, and with our brave law enforcement agencies who aggressively seek out traffickers, prosecute them, and put them in jail where they belong. Every man, woman and child has the right to self-determination and to be respected as individuals. Securing those rights for all people is a priority for me as your County Supervisor.”

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day began as a presidential proclamation in 2011. It is commemorated January 11th of every year to bring attention to the worldwide problem of human trafficking. In America, the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1865 put a permanent end to the legal practice of slavery. However, informal methods of slavery such as sex trafficking, forced labor, involuntary servitude and debt bondage continue to this day in San Bernardino County as well as throughout America and the world.

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is a valuable and visible way for Americans to show support for the victims of trafficking. There are observances planned Thursday throughout the country to raise awareness of this serious problem. Get involved today and volunteer to stop this from happening in our communities.
