ALL>> Time is marching on for the completion of The Veterans Wall of Freedom, located in Grand Terrace. The monument started out with more than 1,600 plaques to be placed on the monument to honor the service and sacrifice of the veterans who gave us our freedom throughout the United States and abroad; we are now 50 percent of the way there for filling up the wall. The plaques on the wall are 3-inches high by 6-inches wide, and are currently displayed on each of the letters of the word “Freedom”, located at the Veterans Freedom Park at 21950 Pico Street in Grand Terrace, California. During the Veterans Wall of Freedom Dedication Ceremony on Friday November 11, 2016, Mayor Darcy McNaboe and the rest of the city council announced that Pico Park would now be known at the “Veterans Freedom Park.” The monument that spells out the word “Freedom” stands 6-feet-tall and 6 to 8-feet-wide in large block letters. More than $225,000 has been donated to the construction of the wall, either through actual dollar donations or in-kind service since its inception. The mission of the Veteran’s Wall of Freedom is to show eternal gratitude to the men and women who have answered the call to defend liberty and protect freedom by serving in the military of the United States of America. The monument is dedicated to our U.S. military men and women, both past and present, for their sacrifices, dedication and service to our country. The cost of the plaque to memorialize a veteran is $100, and the veteran’s committee will make sure it is on the monument for this Memorial Day Ceremony, if the application is received by Saturday, April 15. Please don’t wait too late to honor a loved one, contact the committee at www.veteranswalloffreedom.org or (909) 234-2767 to get a plaque reservation application. Also, there will be time capsules placed at the wall once it is completely full, which will contain small trinkets, individual memos, memorabilia and any messages you may want to leave to be seen upon its opening 50 years from now. You can bring any of those items to the City News Group office, located at 22797 Barton Road in Grand Terrace. All veterans are welcomed on the Freedom Wall, no matter where you reside. Please join us this Memorial Day to celebrate our veterans on the wall and those who are sacrificing their lives for our country at this time.
