Delivering Public Assistance with Care: San Bernardino County’s Mobile Office Expands Community Access

Serving the residents of San Bernardino County means meeting people where they are — and in the nation’s largest county, that requires creativity, commitment, and heart. The San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department’s Mobile Office was launched to bring vital services directly into neighborhoods across 20,105 square miles, reaching all 51 cities and 24 unincorporated communities. By bringing support closer to home, the county is expanding access, removing barriers, and helping ensure every resident has a meaningful opportunity to receive the resources they need to move forward with confidence.

The Mobile Office provides convenient, on-the-spot assistance, including help with applying for public assistance programs, case support for current clients, and on-site document scanning and printing. Instead of traveling long distances, residents can connect with knowledgeable staff right in their own communities — at local events, resource fairs, and neighborhood gathering places.

Beyond direct services, the Mobile Office strengthens partnerships across the county. Staff collaborate with community-based organizations to expand awareness of self-service options and train partners to guide residents through benefit applications. The team also works alongside agencies outside the traditional network, broadening access and deepening community impact.

Equipped with full workstations and modern office technology, the Mobile Office functions as a fully operational extension of Transitional Assistance offices, ensuring seamless, professional service anywhere it goes.

“Accessibility and convenience were at the forefront when designing this Mobile Office,” said James LoCurto, director of Transitional Assistance. “Our Mobile Office allows us to reach communities that may otherwise face challenges accessing services, ensuring individuals have the support they need to thrive.”

By removing barriers and expanding access, San Bernardino County continues taking meaningful steps toward building stronger, more connected communities where residents can thrive.

Throughout the year, residents can expect to see the Mobile Office at scheduled events and strategic locations across the county. Community groups interested in hosting the Mobile Office can submit a request through the Transitional Assistance Department’s outreach page.
