Annual MLK Giving Event: What Are You Doing for Others?

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" King once said to an audience in Montgomery, Alabama in 1957. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Target Southern California Distribution Center Market and Arrowhead United Way will be hosting a School Makeover at Morgan Elementary School in Rialto on Jan. 31, 2016 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Through the Target MLK Grant, the school has been awarded $12,000 to renovate the teacher’s lounge and staff room, paint a mural on the school’s wall, paint black top art on the children’s playground area, and repaint the portables. MLK Day has become a day that reflects the life, teaching and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by bringing people together around the common focus of service to others. Target Southern California Distribution Center Market and Arrowhead United Way and are excited to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a joint volunteer effort. Target Corporation has a strong culture of giving and has given back 5% of its profits to the community since its inception over 50 years ago. On the day of the event there will be over 50 Target employees at Morgan Elementary to lend a hand and to honor Dr. King by ‘doing for others.’ Last year Target employees’ hosted a volunteer event to beautify the exterior of Mary’s Mercy Center, a nonprofit located in San Bernardino, by painting their building, planting beautiful vegetation, and cleaning up outside around the center. The event was made possible by a $15,000 grant awarded by Target Corporation Arrowhead United Way was established in 1891 and is led by prominent respected community leaders; it is one of the oldest United Ways in the country. Arrowhead United Way encourages individuals to become more involved in the community by giving, advocating, and volunteering.
