Out of the almost 30,000 public high schools in America, the four in Moreno Valley Unified are ranked among the very best by U.S. News & World Report. The venerable news magazine’s annual rankings of public high schools measure how their students perform compared with others within their demographic group, along with all students’ college-readiness, based on their performance on Advanced Placement tests. Canyon Springs, Valley View and Vista del Lago high schools earned the magazine’s Bronze Medal; Moreno Valley High School claimed a Silver Medal, ranking it among the nation’s top 2,500 public high schools out of 30,000 nationwide. “We’ve worked hard to raise the expectations and level of support for student academic achievement at MoVal and all our high schools,” said Moreno Valley High School Principal Robert Brough. “We’re very proud to be recognized as one of America’s best high schools.” “What these rankings signify is how very well we’re doing at bridging the achievement gap and helping students succeed against the odds,” said School Board President Gary E. Baugh, noting Moreno Valley High School’s total minority enrollment of 95 percent.
