Maintaining the miles of trails in Moreno Valley can be an extensive task. However, volunteers in the community can lessen the labor by getting involved and ensuring our neighborhood trails are spotless and accessible. The Recreational Trails Board in conjunction with the City of Moreno Valley is sponsoring the "Adopt-a-Trail" program which fosters volunteerism to reduce the cost of trail maintenance, while encouraging landscape usage. According to the City of Moreno Valley website, the program "allows any private organization, business, non-profit, civic group, or individual to take an active role in maintaining the trail system in Moreno Valley." Volunteers will be committed to remove litter and weeds, fill in ruts, and report any graffiti, irrigation problems, or fence repairs. While new participants will be encouraged to maintain an assigned trail on a one-time trial basis, experienced volunteers will be asked to remove debris four times for one year. Organizations can adopt a specific trail that is available, including multi-use staging areas. Volunteers can contribute not only by maintaining the land, but by sponsoring the program as well. "Adopt-a-Trail" benefits the community by providing open spaces for recreation which can also attract new businesses, promote tourism and enhance property value. Above all, committing time and effort to the surrounding area fosters a sense of pride in our community.
