The City of Redlands will unveil its newest piece of public art next week when members of the City Council and the Cultural Arts Commission unveil a steel and glass sculpture installed at the Redlands Civic Center. The event will take place at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 14.

The sculpture, Interiorem Pulchritudinem (Latin for Inner Beauty) by artist John Gilbert Luebtow, is the first installation in the efforts by the City Council and Cultural Arts Commission to provide public art throughout the community.

In March 2017, following a call for artists, the Cultural Arts Commission considered works by three artists for installation at the Civic Center. After interviewing the artists and reviewing their work at a public meeting, the commission unanimously voted to recommend Luebtow’s Linear Form I-Beam Series sculpture to the City Council. In April 2017, the City Council unanimously approved the commission’s recommendation.

The commission raised $20,000 in private donations for the purchase and installation of the sculpture.

The public is invited to attend the unveiling, which will take place at the corner of Cajon and Vine streets.
