On July 19, 2014, the Artist Eye Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach will host a reception in honor of Grand Terrace resident Evan Dahlke. Known for his vibrantly-colored abstract landscapes also known as “abscapes” Dahlke will be the featured artist for the day, with an opportunity to ‘Meet the Artist’ from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The reception will be held between 6 and 9 p.m. in celebration of Dahlke’s fifth year anniversary of showing at this exclusive gallery. Starting his journey into the world of painting in 2007 Dahlke ventured into the realm of abstract work after a business client saw a presentation he had put together and told him he should frame it and sell it as abstract art. Intrigued with the idea, Dahlke completed a custom made piece as a wedding gift that reflected both the style and color palette of the newlyweds’ home. Soon after that, he displayed pictures at the Art in the Park event in Redlands where his paintings sold out. On a following Saturday Dahlke and his wife Adda were strolling around Laguna Beach and met a painter who was showing at the Artist Eye Laguna Gallery, and they went to see his display. After a few questions about submissions to the gallery and a whirlwind response, Dahlke was a featured new artist there within two weeks of the visit. His works inspired by God’s creations and Biblical themes, Dahlke says each time he starts a painting, “It’s a long journey to know what the picture is, and what it’s supposed to be, but it all falls into place once the paint starts to come alive on the canvas. Some people stand for a long time looking at the paintings in the gallery windows, and then come in to tell me they were drawn to it.” For those who are visiting the Artist Eye Laguna Gallery on July 19, 2014, a drawing will be held to win an original painting by Dahlke. The winner will be announced at the reception.
