The Board of Trustees of the San Bernardino Community College District accepted the retirement submission of Dr. Gloria Fisher, president of San Bernardino Valley College at their regular meeting on Nov. 12. President Fisher’s retirement will take effect June 30, 2016, the end of the current academic year. A national search will be conducted for the college’s 15th president in its 90 year history in spring 2016. Dr. Fisher, now in her 24th year with SBVC, was appointed president of SBVC effective Nov. 14, 2014 after having served as Interim President beginning July 2013, and Interim Vice President of Student Services beginning in 2012. Fisher started her career at Valley College in 1991 as a tenure-track faculty member in the Administration of Justice program. She became Department Chair in 1994 and Dean of the Criminal Justice Division in 2001. John Longville, president of the Board said, “We appreciate Dr. Fisher’s long-time commitment to San Bernardino Valley College and to our district. She has served with distinction and as a consummate professional at a time of significant challenges. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.” Chancellor Bruce Baron said, “I was pleased to work closely with Dr. Fisher in her role as president of Valley College, and since I joined the SBCCD in 2009. She brought a wealth of knowledge about the college and the community to the position and was dedicated to the success of the students at SBVC.” Dr. Fisher noted, “I am looking forward to retirement. I have been so pleased to work with colleagues I respect and will miss, and I remain committed to the students and the mission of San Bernardino Valley College.”
