The City Council this week approved the establishment of a pilot Homeless to Work Program to provide temporary jobs and access to services to help homeless individuals in Moreno Valley return to the workforce and access housing.

The program, which will be funded through federal grants, will be patterned after similar programs in other major cities including Albuquerque and Denver which have been very successful in reducing homelessness. The City will partner with a nonprofit to carry out the Homeless to Work Program.

Participants in Moreno Valley may work two days per week, 5 hours per day, for $10.50 per hour. In addition to temporary employment participants will be provided access to community resources to help them get off the streets.

Working with government and nongovernment agencies to reduce homelessness is another priority in the Momentum MoVal strategic plan.
