Moreno Valley>> Voters overwhelmingly approved Measure L, a citywide ballot measure which will increase the city's transient occupancy tax - or hotel tax - from 8 percent to 13 percent. The tax, which was approved by more than 70 percent of the vote Tuesday, Nov.8, will be levied on out-of-town guests who stay at a hotel or motel in Moreno Valley. Measure L creates a locally-controlled source of funding for vital city services such as police and fire protection, 911 emergency response, libraries, street repair and other city services. "Voters have given the City of Moreno Valley an important tool to continue providing high-quality services to our residents and business owners," said Mayor Dr. Yxstian A. Gutierrez. "These revenues will support the services provided to visitors while enhancing the quality of life in our community." Moreno Valley currently has 11 hotels/motels with a total of 931 rooms. Approval of Measure L brings Moreno Valley's transient occupancy tax in line with rates in nearby cities.
