Environmental Activist Bill McKibben to Visit Redlands

REDLANDS >> For more than a quarter of a century, Bill McKibben has worked to shape public perception and motivate the public to take action on issues of climate change, alternative energy and the need for more localized economies. He will continue that conversation with the campus community and community at large during a lecture and Q&A session at 7 p.m. March 21 in the Memorial Chapel at the University of Redlands. A nationally recognized environmentalist, McKibben founded 350.org—a website for the global grassroots climate movement that supports three goals: keeping carbon in the ground; building a more equitable low-carbon economy; and pressuring government into limiting emissions. The number 350 represents climate safety—CO2 in the atmosphere must be reduced from 400 parts per million to below 350. Through 350.org, more than 20,000 rallies supporting these goals were organized across the globe. Author of a dozen books—including the groundbreaking “The End of Nature,” considered by many as the first book on climate change for the masses, and the national bestseller “Deep Economy”—McKibben is also a frequent contributor to The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly and Harper’s. When: 7 p.m. March 21, 2016, book signing to follow. Note: Books will not be for sale at event. Those wishing to have a book signed should bring one to the event. Where: University of Redlands Memorial Chapel, north side of the campus Quad, 1200 E. Colton Ave., Redlands, California. Tickets: General admission $15, available online ($2.50 service fee will be added). Information: Call Event Services (909)748-8116
